What white gold is
White gold is yellow gold alloyed with white metals — usually palladium, nickel or silver — which lifts the colour from yellow to a pale grey-white. Most white gold jewellery is then finished with rhodium, a bright white plating over the surface. That finish is cosmetic and it wears with time; a jeweller can re-plate it inexpensively, and the gold underneath is unchanged when they do. Every bracelet here is solid 14K gold through the body, stamped 14K, never a plated or filled base metal.
Solid and hollow
A solid bracelet is gold through the body of every link. A hollow one is formed around an air core: lighter and less costly for the same visible width, but easier to dent and harder to repair. Most bracelets in this collection are solid. If you want width for daily wear, choose solid; hollow makes sense when you want the look without the weight.
Getting the length right
Measure your wrist with a tape or a strip of paper and add about half an inch so the bracelet drapes rather than binds. Seven to seven and a half inches suits most women; eight to eight and a half suits most men. A wide or heavy bracelet wants the extra half inch more than a fine one does. Looking after solid gold
Gold does not tarnish, so what dulls a gold bracelet is lotion, skin oil and soap film sitting in the links. Warm water, a drop of dish soap and a soft toothbrush along the length, then rinse and dry flat. Chlorine is the one real enemy — it attacks the alloy metals over time and can make a link brittle, so take the bracelet off before a pool or hot tub. Store it laid flat or hung rather than coiled in a heap, which is what puts kinks in a chain.
