Why steel. It does not tarnish, resists scratching, and several designs here are rated salt-water resistant. For a necklace worn every day and never taken off, that is a real advantage over precious metal.
Steel wire and CZ. Many pair a cubic zirconia pendant with a fine steel wire cable — the wire holds its shape without kinking the way a soft chain can.
Titanium and tungsten. Titanium is lighter than steel and hypoallergenic, the option if other metals irritate your skin. Tungsten is the heaviest and hardest here, and holds a polish longer than either.
Colored finishes. Black, yellow, rose and chocolate tones are an IP (ion) finish bonded over the steel, which wears far better than a conventional coating. A handful carry a gold-tone finish instead. Each product page names the finish it has.
Stones and inlays. Beyond cubic zirconia: black onyx, jade, marcasite, druzy, smoky quartz, mother of pearl and carbon fiber inlay.
