January's birthstone. Garnet runs from deep wine red to a brighter crimson. The name comes from the Latin for pomegranate seed, which is exactly what a rough garnet looks like.
Why it wears well. Garnet is hard enough for daily wear and its colour does not fade in sunlight the way some stones do. It also sits naturally with yellow gold, which is why most settings here are yellow rather than white.
