What filigree is. Metal worked into openwork — fine wire and cut-through patterns that let light pass behind the piece. A filigree heart reads considerably larger than its weight, which is how you get presence without buying a heavy pendant.
How it wears. Openwork catches light from behind as well as in front, so the pendant changes as you move. It also sits lighter on a fine chain than a solid heart of the same size.
Care. Fine openwork can snag on knitwear. Worth knowing if it will be worn under a jumper daily.
