Fancy Link Bracelets — 14K White Gold

    Filter

A fancy link bracelet uses a patterned link instead of a standard curb, rope or figaro chain. The shape repeats along the length, so the bracelet reads as a design in its own right rather than as a plain chain. These are in solid 14K White Gold.

      What makes a link “fancy”

Standard chains are named for a link that repeats identically — curb, rope, figaro, box. A fancy link departs from that: elongated ovals alternating with rounds, twisted or woven forms, links set at angles to each other, or a repeating motif worked into the metal. The result catches light differently along its length instead of uniformly, which is why a fancy link reads as jewelry where a plain chain reads as a chain.

The trade-off is repair. A broken link in a standard chain is a routine job for any jeweler; a broken link in a patterned one may need a piece made to match.

      Getting the length right

Measure your wrist with a tape or a strip of paper and add about half an inch so the bracelet drapes rather than binds. Seven to seven and a half inches suits most women; eight to eight and a half suits most men. A wider or heavier bracelet wants the extra half inch more than a fine one does. Lengths are on each product page.

      About the metal

Solid 14K white gold, stamped 14K, finished with rhodium for a bright white surface. The rhodium is cosmetic and wears with time; a jeweler re-plates it inexpensively and the gold beneath is unchanged.

      Care

Warm water, a drop of dish soap and a soft brush. Avoid abrasive polishes, which take the rhodium off faster. Keep it out of chlorinated water. Store flat rather than heaped.
