Why hinged
A hinged bangle splits at one side and swings open, then closes with a box catch or a figure-eight safety clasp. That matters for two reasons. It can be sized to the wrist rather than to the hand, so it sits closer and turns less; and it goes on without forcing it over the knuckles, which makes it the practical choice for anyone with arthritis, larger hands or limited movement in the wrist. The trade-off is the hinge and clasp themselves — more moving parts than a slip-on, and the two places a bangle is most likely to need a repair years down the line.
Getting the size right
Hinged bangles are sized by the inner diameter of the closed bangle, not by length. Measure around your wrist bone with a tape, divide by 3.14, and that is your diameter. Most adult women take between 2.25 and 2.5 inches. Unlike a slip-on, you do not need to measure your hand — the hinge does that work for you.
About the metal
Stainless steel — harder than gold or silver, will not tarnish, shrugs off the scratches that show on a precious metal. A sensible choice for anyone who reacts to other metals, and for a piece worn every day or in water. Black and gold-tone finishes are IP plated, a hard vacuum-bonded coating that lasts far better than conventional plating.
Care
Warm water, a drop of dish soap, a soft brush, dry. No polishing cloth and no tarnish to remove. Avoid abrasives on a polished or IP-plated surface.
