A nugget ring is cast with a deliberately irregular, raw surface that echoes gold as it comes out of the ground — no two faces of the texture catch the light the same way. Ours are solid 14K yellow gold and .925 sterling silver, never plated, in band widths from a narrow everyday profile to a broad tapered shank. Several of the gold pieces are set with diamonds or onyx.

More about nugget rings
What makes a nugget ring a nugget ring
The texture is cast, not applied — the mold itself carries the nugget form, so the relief runs through the metal rather than sitting on it. That is why a nugget ring keeps its character as it wears, where a surface treatment would eventually smooth away. The look traces back to the gold rush era, when miners had raw nuggets set directly into bands.
The two metals read very differently
In 14K yellow gold the texture reads warm and heavy, and the wider tapered shanks carry real weight on the hand. In sterling silver the same form reads cooler and more graphic, and the narrower widths — under 3 mm through just over 5 mm — sit closer to an everyday band. The gold pieces here are from the IB Goodman men's line.
Stones in a nugget setting
Diamonds appear in the gold pieces as single stones, clusters and brushed-in accents, in weights up to half a carat. Onyx shows up as a flat polished oval or a cushion against the rough gold, which is the sharpest contrast in the group — a smooth black face framed by the broken texture.
Width, weight and how it wears
Band width is the number that decides how a nugget ring feels. The silver pieces run from about 2.85 mm to 5.2 mm, with gram weights listed on each product page; the gold pieces widen toward the top and taper at the back. A wider nugget band sits higher off the finger, so go up a size if you wear rings snug.
Caring for a textured surface
Rinse in warm water with a drop of mild dish soap and work a soft toothbrush into the recesses, where polish and skin oils collect faster than they would on a flat band. Dry fully. Sterling silver darkens with air and that is normal — a silver polishing cloth on the raised areas restores it without flattening the texture. Keep gold pieces with diamonds away from chlorine.
Common questions
Are nugget rings real gold or just textured plating?
Real metal throughout. The gold pieces are solid 14K and stamped 14K; the silver pieces are .925 sterling and stamped .925. The nugget surface is cast into the metal, not a coating.
Are nugget rings only for men?
No. Most of this group is cut on a men's size range, but there are narrower pieces made for a woman's hand, and the style itself is unisex. The size range on each product page is the thing to check.
Do nugget rings scratch more easily than a plain band?
They hide wear better. A polished flat band shows every scratch across an unbroken surface, while an irregular cast texture absorbs small marks into the pattern. The metal is no softer either way.
What size should I order in a wide nugget band?
A wide band fits tighter than a narrow one at the same marked size. If you are between sizes, or you normally wear a thin band, order the next size up for anything over about 5 mm.
Can a nugget ring be resized?
It depends on the piece. A plain shank can usually be worked, but a ring where the texture or stones run all the way around has nowhere to take metal out. Check the sizing options on the product page before ordering.
Will the sterling silver ones tarnish?
Sterling silver reacts with air over time and darkens, especially in the recesses of a textured surface. A silver polishing cloth brings it back. Some people like the darkened recesses, which deepen the contrast of the nugget form.
What does the onyx add?
Contrast. Onyx is cut as a smooth polished face, so it sits against the broken gold texture as a flat black plane — the two surfaces read as opposites, which is the whole point of the design.
