A Cuban link chain is a curb chain taken heavier: flattened, interlocking links filed so their faces sit flush and the chain lies as a solid band. It is also called a Cuban curb, and in its widest forms a Miami Cuban.
10K yellow gold is 41.7% pure gold — 10 parts in 24 — alloyed with silver, copper and zinc for strength. The higher alloy content makes 10K harder and more scratch-resistant than 14K or 18K, and a shade paler in colour.
About 10K Yellow Gold Cuban chains
The links are twisted and then flattened, which is what gives a Cuban chain its continuous surface and its weight. It is worn as the piece itself rather than as a carrier for a pendant, and the wider the gauge the more it reads as a statement on its own.
Questions about 10K Yellow Gold Cuban chains
What is the difference between a Cuban link and a curb chain?
They are built the same way — twisted links flattened flush. Cuban refers to the heavier, wider end of that family; a plain curb chain is lighter and thinner at the same length.
Can I hang a pendant on a Cuban chain?
You can, but it is not what the chain is for. The links are tight and thick, so a standard bail may not pass through. Cuban chains are usually worn alone.
Is 10K gold real gold?
Yes. 10K is 41.7% pure gold, the lowest purity that may legally be sold as gold in the United States. It is solid gold alloyed for durability — not filled and not a coating — and each piece is stamped 10K.
What length chain should I choose?
On most adults a 16-inch chain sits at the base of the neck, 18 inches falls just below the collarbone, 20 inches reaches the top of the chest, and 22 to 24 inches sits over a shirt or sweater. These are worn on their own rather than with a pendant, so choose the length by where you want the chain to fall.
How do I look after a 10K gold Cuban chain?
Wipe it with a soft cloth after wearing to lift skin oils, keep it away from chlorine and household cleaners, and store it separately so it cannot tangle with other chains.
