Solid 14K yellow gold bracelets. Bangles and cuffs are the largest group, followed by fancy and patterned link styles, charm bracelets, I.D. bracelets and the classic chain patterns — figaro, rope, curb and anchor.
14K, and what the stamp means
14K gold is 58.3% pure gold, alloyed with copper and silver for hardness. Pure gold is too soft to survive daily wear as a bracelet, which is why almost no fine jewellery is made from it. Every piece here is stamped 14K and is solid gold through the body — never plated, gold-filled or vermeil. For the same styles at a lower price point, see 10K gold bracelets, which use a lower proportion of gold and are harder still.
Solid, semi-solid and hollow
Most bracelets here are solid. A hollow bracelet is formed around an air core, which buys visible width at less weight and less cost but dents more easily and is harder for a jeweller to repair. Semi-solid sits between the two. For a wide bracelet you intend to wear every day, solid is worth the difference.
Getting the length right
Measure your wrist with a tape or a strip of paper and add about half an inch so the bracelet drapes rather than binds. Seven to seven and a half inches suits most women; eight to eight and a half suits most men. A wide or heavy bracelet wants the extra half inch more than a fine one does. Lengths are listed on every product page.
Looking after solid gold
Gold does not tarnish, so what dulls a gold bracelet is lotion, skin oil and soap film sitting in the links. Warm water, a drop of dish soap and a soft toothbrush along the length, then rinse and dry flat. Chlorine is the one real enemy — it attacks the alloy metals over time and can make a link brittle, so take the bracelet off before a pool or hot tub. Store it laid flat or hung rather than coiled in a heap, which is what puts kinks in a chain.
